Kourtney's Choice

Hollywood and all of its gossip sites are abuzz with the “news” that Kourtney Kardashian “agonized” over whether or not she should keep her baby. (See this piece in People)

Really? Is there so little going on in the celeb world that THIS is what we’re scandalized over this week?

Come on, people. If you staked out Hollywood abortion clinics you’d be sure to see a starlet or at least some D-lister entering and exiting in any given month. Are we really allowing ourselves to believe that the under-pants-less vadge-flashing elite have never had unwanted pregnancies and terminated them? Of course not! They just don’t talk about it. This blogger thinks it would be bigger news for someone to go through a pregnancy and give the baby up for adoption. Now THAT’S news! Abortion isn’t something any woman talks about publicly. It just isn’t. But we are fools to think that it doesn’t happen, be it in Arkansas or Beverly Hills. Get real.

I firmly believe in a woman’s right to choose. I think it’s good that Kourtney Kardashian has used her public platform (increasingly larger thanks to her E! reality show and soon-to-be expanding belly) to discuss the fact that she examined her options. I like that, actually. But if Kourtney had decided to terminate, you can be sure that those E! cameras would have been far far away, and the producers never would have known.

You know what else we never hear about? Hollywood-funded abortions when male actors decide not to use a rubber. We are never scandalized over that, probably because the women are in hiding. There are so many unplanned pregnancies in Hollywood, it almost looks like a Catholic commune. Apparently there's no such thing as birth control in La-La Land.
